Fragrance related contact dermatitis happens when your skin reacts to fragrance chemicals in scented products, causing an allergic or irritant reaction. 

Fragrances are common triggers of contact dermatitis and can cause symptoms such as dry, scaly patches, itching, redness, and inflamed areas that often appear where the product touched your skin. 

This reaction can develop slowly over days or soon after exposure, depending on whether it is allergic contact dermatitis (a delayed hypersensitivity reaction) or irritant contact dermatitis (direct skin damage). 

If you notice these symptoms, stop using fragranced products on the affected area and speak to a healthcare professional or dermatologist for advice.

Linalool and limonene are fragrance ingredients found in scented skincare products. When these ingredients have oxidised in an opened product, they can potentially trigger contact dermatitis.
